about.

I am a designer and maker of fine contemporary furniture based close to Princeton, New Jersey. It seems that I have been building things since given my first tool kit by my father when I was a small child.                                                                                                           I was born, lived and worked for most of my life in the U.K. Studying 3-Dimensional Design in Wood Metal and Plastics I gained a B.A (Hons) 1st, specializing in Designer Craftsman furniture. Following my degree, I studied and worked with a second generation cabinet maker finally taking over his workshop when he relocated. As well as having my own workshop I worked for many years in commercial joinery manufacturer finally project managing for a company specializing in the interior fit out of museums and Art Galleries in the U.K and the Middle East before moving to the United States in 2011.

Preferring to work in native timbers and to make my own finishes from naturally sourced waxes and oils. The root influence of my work has always been traditional Japanese architecture and its construction, still fascinating to me, these influences are these days less overt. I do not rely on the use of exotic timbers, inlays or other embellishments to distinguish my work but rather its form and silhouette often masking constructional complexities bound around its purpose. I develop my pieces using hand-drawn sketches before committing to full-size drawings, although working with CAD in previous commercial experiences I find the immediacy of working with a sketchbook is more rewarding, less restrictive and more thought-provoking before moving to final resolutions with full-size drawings

I undertake commission work only, the process begins with a personal consultation where the proposed space, purpose and effect that the piece or pieces need to fulfill can be discussed and design parameters can be established. This is followed by the production of design sketches, this requires a non-refundable payment determined by the scope of the proposed work, this being deductible from the initial deposit should the work be commissioned. Once the design, timbers, and finishes are finalized and following payment of a deposit, full-size drawings would be produced to be signed off and manufacture begun.

I welcome any contact to discuss your requirements, ideas or dreams.
